Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois

The school was named after Glenbard Township, which is composed of two townships - Lombard and Glen Ellyn. It was constructed in the early 1900s on Honeysuckle Hill and features dark red brick with a castle-like design. The Glenbard Township High School opened in 1922 and is the first of the school district's four high schools. The building was designed by Coolidge and Hodgeson, who also designed the Chicago Public Library, Art Institute, and Saint Olaf College. The Glenbard Township School opened in Lombard in September 1959. The school was later joined by Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream in August 1968. The new Glenbard South High School opened in Glen Ellyn in 1972.

While there are many great high schools in Illinois, Glenbard West is one of the best known. It is a member of the West Suburban Conference, which is governed by the Illinois High School Association. Its teams are stylized as Hilltoppers. Among its notable alumni is Gary Sinise, a four-time Emmy Award-winning actor. This school is home to several talented athletes.

The school's building is an impressive piece of architecture. Constructed in 1922, the building features a tower entrance and has a total square footage of 26,000 square feet. Through many renovations, the school now stands out in academics and sports. The six former science labs were converted into eight classrooms. The building also features a green roof and native vegetation that reduce rainwater runoff and help keep the building cooler during warmer weather.

Glenbard West High School is currently ranked #671 in the National Rankings, which ranks high schools based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college.
